The death of a government employee after being bitten by a snake has been declared a murder. The police investigation has revealed that the deceased’s own sons hatched this sinister conspiracy to get an insurance amount of around Rs 3 crore.

Ganesan, 56, a laboratory assistant in a government school, was bitten by a snake at his home on October 22 and taken to a hospital, police said. He was declared brought dead at the hospital. Initially, it was thought to be a simple snake bite and the police registered a case.

According to Indian media, many facts came to light during the investigation. This raised suspicion among the police. Usually, in case of a snake bite, first aid is provided immediately and the patient is taken to the nearest hospital. However, in this case, instead of taking Ganesan to a nearby health centre, his sons waited for an ambulance for around 45 minutes. The delay raised questions about their motives.

A mistake revealed the mystery

The police became even more suspicious when the sons of the deceased approached the insurance company to inquire about the claim process within 15-20 minutes of the announcement of the hospital’s death. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was then formed under the leadership of DSP Jayashree.

The investigation revealed that Ganesan had a total of 11 policies from various insurance companies. Of these, 4 were life insurance. The total sum insured was about Rs 3 crore. The SIT analysed documents, call details and other evidence.
