Kathmandu. The Trump administration has revoked the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) granted to thousands of Nepalis. <\/p>\n
According to a reuters report, the Trump administration has revoked the TPS facility given by the US to thousands of Nepalis after the 2015 earthquake. Issuing a notice, Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem said the Trump administration has revoked the TPS facility for Nepal as it has recovered significantly from natural disasters. “Environmental disaster preparedness and response capabilities have improved significantly,” the notice said. So that there is no disruption in the living conditions and Nepal is able to adequately handle its citizens. \u2019<\/p>\n
The US Department of Security estimates that 12,700 Nepalis are currently living in the US under the TPS. Under the TPS facility, if a natural disaster, armed conflict or other extraordinary event occurs in someone’s country, the US provides deportation relief and work permits to the people of those countries. <\/p>\n
According to the notice, around 5,500 Nepalis who have reached the US under the TPS facility have received valid permanent residency permits. “More than 7,000 Nepalis will now have to leave the UNITED States,” the notice said. <\/p>\n
According to the notification, the cancellation of TPS facility will come into effect within 60 days from Friday. This means that Nepali immigrants who do not have a permanent residence permit till August 5 will have to leave the US. “After that date, those Nepalis may face deportation if they do not leave the US,” the notice warned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
