Kathmandu. Jagan Sapkota has been elected president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Canada. In today’s election (year 25-27), he won by securing 1532 votes. There was a competition of five candidates for the post of president.
Chanda Adhikari got 1357 votes, Kiroj Shrestha 848 votes, Bidya Bhushan Karki 1108 votes and Suraj Adhikari 283 votes. There were 6,015 voters in NRNA Canada, out of which 5,179 took part in the voting.
Sarmila Ranabhat has been elected general secretary of NRNA Canada. Hari Barakoti has been elected vice-president in The Atlantic, Pratik Bhandari in the vice-president’s central and Bishal Thapa in the western.
Indira Rijal has been elected as treasurer, GR Bhandari as joint treasurer and Bijay Lamsal as secretary. Similarly, Hemraj Kafle has been elected as youth coordinator.
Likewise, Kamal Bhattarai, Bishal Ghimire, Pitamber Bhattarai and Dinesh Ghimire have been elected as icc members. Sunil Ghimire from Atlantic, Tilaram Sapkota and Tika Pahari from Mississauga, Sita Thada Rana, Sagar Gurung and Ram Maya Ghimire from Brampton, Bishnu Maya Chhetri from women, Bijay Tamang and Shiva Dallakoti from London City have been elected.

Santosh Dahal, Prajapati Sapkota and Dr. Dipu Moni have been appointed as senior vice-presidents of NRNA Canada. Punya Sagar Marhatta and Samiksha Karki and Geeta Dawadi Dhakal have been unanimously elected as women vice-presidents. The general assembly held in Scarborough on Saturday unanimously elected them. It is said that all the five candidates who filed their candidacy have been unanimously elected to settle the dispute between the two posts.
Janaki Pandit for the post of vice-president (federal government liaison) and Svikriti Khadka for the post of youth coordinator (women) have been elected unopposed.
Similarly, Binod Gurung from Satbury in North Ontario, Manoj Kumar Thapa from Nova Scoccia/PEI, Jeevan Pant from Quebec, Yam Gotame from Ottawa, Bharat Kumar Sharma from Niagara, Manoj Bhandari from Kitchener/Waterloo, Bibek Gautam from Manitova, Narayan Prasad Dahal from Saskachan, Parasdeep Subedi from Victoria of British Columbia, Binod Sharma from Surrey and Govinda Chhetri from Vancouver have been elected unopposed.
Naresh Pokhrel from Edmonton, Ishwari KC and Sagun Pandey from Alberta, Khumaraj Pandey, Bhim Tiwari from Calgary and Prinjia Dhungel from The Women’s category have also been elected unopposed.
